On February 25th, The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) announced the approval of 78 projects through its Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). A list of the approved projects can be found on the MAFRA website at the following link: http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/rural/infrastructure-broadband/ocif-projects.htm. These approved projects represent the 50% of the OCIF, which is allocated through a municipal application-based process.

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the renewal of the OCIF at the AMO Conference in August 2014 (refer to OSWCA Bulletin from August 22, 2014). The Fund provides $100 million in targeted funding per year to build and rehabilitate critical infrastructure (water, wastewater, road, and bridge) in small, rural, and northern communities across the province. 50% of the Fund was previously allocated directly to municipalities to invest according to their infrastructure asset management plans. Funding allocations to various municipalities can be found at the following link: http://www.moi.gov.on.ca/en/infrastructure/building_together_mis/OCIF-Formula-eligible.asp

In order for a project to be eligible for funding through this initiative, municipalities are required to have a population of less than 100,000 as of the 2011 census or be located in northern or rural Ontario
