Stolen Heavy Construction Equipment

Crime Stoppers

The Ontario Provincial Police estimates that each year between $15 and $20 million worth of heavy construction equipment is stolen. The OSWCA has been heavily involved in the area of theft prevention and stolen equipment recovery for its members. The Association encourages Ontarians to report suspicious activity around construction sites during the evening or weekends. The OSWCA has also offered to double any award given by Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest for stolen equipment. In 2006, the Association has released the Volume No. 3 of its equipment identification manual which is distributed to OSWCA members and to police agencies in Canada and the US. This guide book is designed to assist law enforcement officers in the location of Vehicle Identification Numbers (V.I.N.) on construction equipment. The OSWCA has produced "Crimestoppers" decals for member contractors to put on equipment, and signs to post at project sites. To order decals, please contact Margaret Malagowski at 905-629-7766. This website (see link below) has been created by the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association (O.S.W.C.A.) in an attempt to curb the ever rising criminal activity of theft of heavy construction equipment. You can access the list of recent thefts, report a new theft, order decals, learn about theft prevention tips and more.
