Young Executives Committee: About YECThe Young Executives Committee was established in 1991 by a group of contractors, and now boasts over two dozen members. The committee keeps abreast of current issues in the sewer and watermain industry and develops programs to assist other contractors. In 1993, the YEC created a Health and Safety Program manual for the industry. Although many larger contractors already had health and safety programs in place, this manual was extremely helpful to smaller contractors and was a movement towards standardization for water and sewer construction. This manual is now in its third edition, having been updated to keep current with legislated changes. The YEC has also published a Municipal Tendering Guide with standardized guidelines for all sewer and watermain contracts. There is a strong committment in the YEC to education. It has distributed an information package on careers in sewer and watermain construction to Ontario schools; and committee members frequently visit high schools to talk to students about the varied jobs available.
